Structural and lipidomic alterations of striatal myelin in 16p11.2 deletion mouse model of autism spectrum disorder.
All,
This study suggests that in 16p11.2 deletion, brain wiring may be slower or less efficient because the protective coating around brain connections (myelin)—which depends on healthy brain fats—is altered, helping families understand why movement, behavior, or learning challenges can occur and why supporting overall brain health (through early therapies and future treatments targeting myelin or lipid pathways) may be an important part of care, even though this research is still at the animal‑model stage.
