This study shows that autistic girls—especially those who speak well and have fewer early delays, as can be seen in some children with 16p11.2—are more likely to be missed by common autism screening tools, helping explain why many girls are diagnosed later and underscoring the need for more sensitive, equitable screening approaches so families can access supports earlier.
