Perinatal stroke and the risk of developing childhood epilepsy.
All,
This study found that children who experienced a stroke around the time of birth have a high risk (67%) of developing epilepsy in childhood, and that prenatal ultrasound signs of brain injury and a family history of epilepsy can help predict earlier seizure onset—information that may be relevant for families of children with 16p11.2 syndromes who also face elevated seizure risks.
