Autism as a sequence: from heterochronic germinal cell divisions to abnormalities of cell migration and cortical dysplasias.
All,
This paper proposes that autism may begin very early in pregnancy if the brain’s “starter cells” divide or move at the wrong times, and for families with a 16p11.2 deletion or duplication, this idea helps explain how changes in this gene region could shift early brain wiring and later lead to learning, communication, or behavioral differences.
