Autism spectrum disorder susceptibility gene TAOK2 affects basal dendrite formation in the neocortex.
All,
This study examines the TAOK2 gene, located in the 16p11.2 proximal region, and finds that it plays a critical role in how brain cells grow their branch-like connections (dendrites), which may help explain some of the neurological differences seen in children with 16p11.2 proximal deletions or duplications.
