Decline in cognitive performance between ages 13 and 18 years and the risk for psychosis in adulthood: a Swedish longitudinal cohort study in males.
All,
This study found that a decline in verbal reasoning skills between ages 13 and 18 in boys was a strong predictor of psychosis in adulthood, which may be relevant for families with 16p11.2 variants since these individuals have an elevated risk for psychosis and schizophrenia—suggesting that tracking cognitive changes during the teen years could be an important early warning sign.
