This study shows that most school‑age children with proximal 16p11.2 deletions or duplications have significant, broad‑based language challenges (especially expressive language), even compared with their siblings, helping families understand the importance of early, ongoing speech‑language evaluation and targeted therapy regardless of whether a child has autism or intellectual disability.
