This study suggests that changes in the IGF (growth factor) signaling pathway, especially the IGF1R gene, may play a shared role in autism by affecting how key brain cells develop, helping families affected by 16p11.2 syndromes understand why growth, brain development, and learning can be linked—and why future treatments might one day target growth‑related pathways alongside developmental and behavioral supports.
